Everyone assumes the Thoroughbred is the one with no past. It was the other way round, and working out why changed how I keep both of them.

Marshall was nearly called Ford. Harvey was nearly Mr. Darcy. On beanie babies, racing puns, and the superstition that stopped us.

Nobody told me the real number, so here is mine: purchase, board, the restart, the ulcers, and the $700 I lost by not asking for a contract.

The part nobody posts about: keeping an old friend comfortable, and taking the long view of a life you've been lucky to witness in full.

I asked my trainer something I was embarrassed to ask, and the answer quietly changed how I ride. Here's what clicked.

Seven records, in order of how badly you'll wish you had them on the worst day, framed as care rather than admin.

Why Harvey is shod, why Marshall isn't, and why barefoot isn't a moral achievement.
